Seminars & Workshops

I am hosting a very popular seminar on the links between “pain & behaviour” in dogs at St Georges Church Hall, Worthing, BN11 2DS on Sunday 18th February 2018 1pm to 4.30pm with a break for tea, coffee & cake.

The talk is being held by Cathie Forbes Galen Dip, IAAT LSSM Dip, MSMA & Mandy Locks of Akira Dog Training BSc (Hons) Psych.

It is suitable for pet dog owners & pet professionals as well. Whether your best friend is a companion, canine athlete or working dog they can experience muscular aches and pains in everyday life just as we do. Having an active life can cause soft tissue injuries, muscular strains, or sprains. Joint conditions such as hip or elbow dysplasia can develop from puppyhood and can cause discomfort for your dog into their senior years.

It is in a dog’s nature to hide their pain and carry on regardless and it is because of this, underlying muscular problems often go undetected until there is a significant change in their mobility, such as stiffness after walks or not being able to jump in or out the car. You may notice a change in behaviour, no longer wanting to play with other dogs or becoming more nervous. Sometimes dogs simply start suddenly looking old before their time.

The seminar will also cover;

  • Link between pain & behaviour including:
  • Behaviour signs of pain
  • How fear, anxiety & stress overlap – but also masks the signs of pain
  • Looks at different types of pain
  • How dogs experience pain
  • Links between pain & aggression
